There were clear indications that the gates have considerable safeguards built in. However I think these ones are one of 4 versions if I am remembering correctly, depending on which section of the universe they have been deposited in. With some of that knowledge it makes that dramatic moment less impactful. So that was beneficial to you that you are unaware of a lot of that. The commutation stones are a callback. Here they are just a remarkable tool that they just happen to have without a great deal of an explanation, which is ok.

He basically saying there's always a way, so he's speaking from lived experience.
