The amount of "things" in the world-building in season one, and just being dropped into what is kind of like a fully realised universe, took me a while to catch up with. I think feeling slightly overwhelmed for half/most of season 1 is a common thing, but you're handling it far better than most. Once everything is painted in, and everything clicks into place, it all pays off.
