I have this more than occasionally reoccurring perception of how the arts in the US can treat the portrayal of people in the armed forces. I should specify, not actually the real people in the military, but some times, in movies and films. A cartoonist approach, of soliders being overly gung-ho and treating combat like a game. That doesn't seem like a thing here. Pretty much the highest regard with rigid professionalism. I know in this case, this is a bit of a dark comedy to a degree, so it doesn't apply in quite the same way. I always find it quite staggering how completely out of touch the writers can be. A bit like the people in the acting class, forming opinions without the slightest clue of the real word, outside those bubbles, as it so eloquently comments. Which isn't an ironic choice.

2023-12-23 04:04:42 +0000 UTCOne of the actors in my zombie movie was an actual Navy SEAL and who I found out later had serious PTSD issues. A few years later he killed himself. I still think about him and wish I'd reached out to him more.
