Poll: Weak Points of the Roster

Hey, so the nature of this project is that a lot of it was done by a version of me who's a worse designer than the version we've got now. I don't normally like doing polls because I feel like it creates an obligation I'm not sure I'll be able or willing to satisfy, but I think it's important to take the temperature on the community feeling about this.

Also, I think I gotta stop doing the master PDF. At this point my computer is regularly crashing when I try to download or compress it, and the process of manually adjusting every page number in the ToC takes a full day away from other work each month. I wanted to wait until 2k pages before giving up, but I haven't the strength to go on. That said, there'll be one more of them for this month's update.

Here are my general thoughts about what I could devote more focus to going forward, let me know what feels like you'd benefit the most from it. Feel free to choose multiple, but remember everything's on the to-do list so this is more to help with priority:

Comments

Hey, I wish to report a bug, I can only add ONE heart to this comment

Asherett

Eeeey, tons of those coming next month.

Isaac Minarik

I answered "Updates/expansions to olde designs here", but what I'd most of all like to see is more NPCs! Your Necromancers, Conjurers, Cultists and Enchanters are awesome, and I'd love to see more in that vein for all kinda of NPC types (melee and non-magic ranged too!)

Asherett

Yeah, there's a lot of stuff that could really benefit from that

Isaac (Conflux Creatures)

That would solve the problems I'm having now, but would multiply the amount of work I need to devote to it each month. I think I'm going to try Ron Price's suggestion of doing pdf for old work and a PDF for newer stuff, though.

Isaac (Conflux Creatures)

Oh wow, that's a really good idea. I'll give that a try next month and see how it feels

I primarily use the master lists, but I don't think that splitting them into volumes by year (or any other category) would make them less useable. Saying "everything from this point goes into Volume 2" would be the easiest way to move forward with them, as opposed to having to update volumes by letter or category.

Ron Price

Is it possible to break the pdf into smaller sections? Like table of contents and the rolling tables in one pdf. Alphabetical A-C as another, etc?

Zerglingdad

The Master PDF is super-huge, not great to use. If it's causing you problems (and I can totally believe it is!), please drop it! Finding the monsters I want to use is often my biggest issue. I'm mainly using the json format as it's quick, searchable, and filterable. Better biome tables would be interesting, especially if you could add more biome-lore and creature faction suggestions (admittedly thinking here mainly of the under dark which is what I'm prepping now), and perhaps some quick descriptive notes against creatures in the tables โ€“ we all know what a red dragon is, but a lot of the more interesting creatures I would have to look up to get the faintest idea what they are from the name alone; e.g. "Earth elemental" against Xorn would immediately indicate what it is? If I can throw another into the mix? Whilst artwork is gorgeous, it rarely makes it to my table on the night. Quick text descriptions would be super helpful though. For example looking at an Ixzan, a description like "Large manta-ray like creature, with a powerful harpoon on its tail; swims or flies" would give me something immediate rather than rely on googling everything!

Oh thank goodness! Had me worried we'd be scrolling through individual posts to find stuff ๐Ÿ˜…

Weston Kennedy

Oh, absolutely not. Just the 1750 page pdf.

Isaac (Conflux Creatures)

Thanks for all your hard work!

Edward Long

With the Master PDF being discontinued, does that include the Individual Links page?
