This made for TV movie did really well in the ratings, resulting in a sequel called "The Night Strangler", also about Kolchak dealing with a supernatural situation. That movie was also a ratings hit and that lead to the "Night Stalker" TV series. Sadly, that only lasted one season. The ratings were excellent but Darrin Mcgavin (Kolchak) got tired of personally re-writing the scripts he was given (which he felt were awful) and quit the show.
