Yeah, I have such mixed feelings on death penalty. Like, a big part of me is like you, like they deserve it. They do awful things, they take people's lives from them, why should they get to live theirs? Even in prison. Then there's this other part of me that's like "I just want them to rot in prison forever, death is too easy." Then there's the compassionate part of me that just wants to believe that anyone can change, even though a lot of them I still believe should never be free. I'm also from the UK where the DP is not a thing. So that might make me think differently too. (Plus, I can't help but just imagine how terrifying it would be to walk to my death, knowingly, also knowing that it was TOTALLY legal and there wasn't going to be justice for my death because my death IS the justice, ya know? Does that make sense?) I TOTALLY understand Penelope needing to go see him. She's never had to do something like that before. She isn't in the field, she's usually behind a computer screen and on the other side of the phone. She sees awful things still, and she helps catch people who then go onto be on death row, or get killed by one of the team. But it's never been that direct before. I can't help but think back to after she was shot and Morgan gave her a gun when he went out to check out a noise he heard and she was terrified by the idea of using it. She didn't even want to shoot the guy who had actually shot her. This time, she actually shot this guy, and while that didn't kill him, it did lead to his arrest which led to his death, and that would just feel so much more personal. And I DO understand Morgan's POV too, I don't agree with it and think he handled it terribly (until the end, so glad he showed up for her!!) but I can understand it. Like you said, he's angry at this guy because he tried to kill two of the most important people in his life. And he hates the idea of him getting any comfort, especially from Garcia. I feel like he felt that it'd do more harm than good for her, that he'd get this comfort and apology from Penelope and she'd just feel worse after going. But that's not what happened, obviously. One thing I do appreciate with how he handled it though is that he didn't tell everyone what was going on. He told Reid, which I think is fair as this is the guy who tried to kill him too, but no one else. He specifically told Reid he would wait until they were alone to tell him what was going on. There wasn't any of him telling everyone and trying to get their approval for how he handled it. It was Garcia's business and he kept it that way, besides Reid who was literally this guys main target at the time so he was kinda part of it. I just appreciate that. Tbh, I feel like Garcia was almost more there for the little boy version of the man in the end though. If that makes sense? She mentioned that he had a terrible upbringing, which is likely what brought him there (like usual...) and I feel like a part of her saw him that way due to all the research she did on him. I also really appreciate Hotch immediately agreeing that she should go, and Reid immediately understanding why she needed to. It's always nice to see people supporting people's decisions even when they might seem crazy to others. It just makes me happy. Last thing, I like that they didn't just have Kevin disappear after he and Penelope broke up. He's not a character I love or anything, but too often in shows when a main character has a LI that works at the same place as them and then they break up, they just disappear, they have some story of them leaving. Or they're only ever brought back as the ex for relationship drama stuff. I just kinda appreciate that they didn't even mention that he's her ex this episode, he was just a coworker who was filling in for her. There's something refreshing about it...
