I've been put on a lie detector before. They aren't magic. First, they ask you all the questions they're going to ask you. Then they hook you up to the machine and ask you again. So you know the question you're going to lie to is coming and they see you getting more nervous as that question approaches. Then they ask you. "You seem to be reacting to question #7. What aren't you telling me? And they keep that up until you don't react to question #7 anymore.
