Horse Rider Faction Emblem - Poll

Hi all! This month we're still at the half-orc customizer (gonna show some progress real soon). However, we also need to plan some designs for next month - thus this poll.

And it is an important one!

Please help me decide on the emblem for the horse rider faction!

Option A

This one is the most classic viking animal design style. I do like it because of that, but I'm afraid banners with this one will be difficult to print and especially to paint.

Option B

This is probably my fav, as it has those elegant spirals that could be "embroidered" on a banner.

Option C

For the undecisive, a middle ground between A and B. Less of those hoops and loops around means easier painting.

Option D

This one appeared in the design process and I had to include it just for the laughs 😅

Horse go BOINK BOINK!

Please keep Option D at zero votes 😄

Ahhh, that's the good stuff :D Sadly, it's VERY specific and just a little too crude to make it approachable for the typical miniature enthusiast! I'll think this through though, as I do enjoy delving into the protoindoeuropean knowledge sinkhole from time to time :D

Like some malicious scribe pulling all the bookmarks from your codices... There's some really interesting proto-indoeuropean art (think early Bronze Age, contemporaneous with early pharaonic Egypt) that was ancient to the pre-historic vikings that who were the ancient subject of the medieval christian norse compiling the stories. Tattooed horse warriors wielding little axes... if you want to get that feeling of "depth of history" you can call back to styles and patterns that the vikings would recognize as from their ancient forefathers like these sorts of stylized horses and old stories of the Dyēus Phter who they called Óðinn Alföðr... cool stuff. Looking forward to the outcome. If you do a set inspired by the Númenóreans dipping back into this sort of deep history would make Tolkien proud :)

I gave this quest to Janka, our illustrator, so I really didn't make the research 😃 I usually do try to compile a list of historical stuff that was converted for fantasy use, but I fail in the middle when I close all my browser tabs 😅

Robert Maefs

Haahaha 😂 Exactly!

D looks like the horse in the Bugs Bunny Opera movie.

Uhm, this will depend on the release. As you can see from the roadmap, next month will be non-modular units (shields merged to figure). Then we get hero minis. Then a customizer (shields with hands as bits). I will also provide totally separate shields for decoration purposes :)

Are the shields going to be attached to the arms or separate?

SAShenanigans

Oh wow! That would have been quite an adventure! Maybe you'll get a chance for another movie set in the future though 😃 Or you know, create opportunities yourself, gather up some pals and make a short film 😃 (I know I tried and failed miserably 😅).

My friend’s sister was one of the Riders of New Zealand... she also once owned Hades’ chariot horse from Xena. I got a chance to be an extra in the Germania section of Gladiator and actually turned it down 😭😭😭. I would have had to get up at 04.30 to drive to the set..sadly I didn’t have the money to stay over the night before... still annoyed about that.

*boink* 😂

Might still use this one for something like a royal banner, or maybe decorations in the great hall!

Ooooh I so wanted to vote D 😂 I went for B instead.

Stephen Renwick

Voted A

Hans Jørgen Kristensen

I know, right? 😅

Option D makes me want a My Little Pony Friendship is Magic alternate version of everything..

I'm a fan of simplicity too ;) But I think an emblem should be fairly ornate, it's like a jewel on a banner!

I know it says not to vote for D but I actually really like the simplicity of it best. Refine the head and front leg shape just a bit and i think it would feel a lot less silly

Jonathan Barnes

Voting A, thanks for the opportunity to Vote. :)

Preston

Yes, that makes a lot of sense so I went with C :) That said I am really hyped for the Horse-Lords and the Half-Orcs. That battle was always my favorit part in the story :D

Thanks for the feedback! Shields have their own specific templates for decorations (e.g. 2 horse heads, instead of a body) due to things like the shield boss in the middle breaking a nice design. I do like the spirals on C very much too! This might be a winner ;)

So, I actually got a question ^^ Is it the design only for the banners? Or for the shields to? For banners only I would go with a more complex style while for shields I would prefer an evean more simplified version of option B Also my favorit would be the body of C with the single ear and mane style from option B.
