(This ain't good writing by any means especially with just writing things as I think of them, but I wanted to do something fun and different, and SFW. Maybe I'll write something a little lewd at some point, to appease ya'll).
Aurora:
She knew there was no point in turning around to look back. The crew drew their straws, and divided, their fates now set. The shuttle had already left the ship and it was futile in asking the ship mind to relay a message to Burg. They both had their missions that they had to fulfill before the possibility of them being together could happen.
She laughed to herself thinking of his name. His parents had something from the ancient days called a hamburger 3D printed for them back on the Planet Ardul. During pregnancy his Mom had cravings for various weird creations of hamburgers, and was calling out for a " 'burg!!" after giving birth. The doctor was confused and thus Burg was born. What an interesting name for an even more interesting man.
She felt lucky the rest of the crew didn't see the tears in her eyes as she said goodbye to Burg. A love discovered and gone in a flash. The remaining crew on the ship Redaxxus had their own perilous journey ahead to the uncharted planet: Tetra Nova X7. She knew there was also a chance that she may not survive either. But she wanted to do anything it took to have her crew survive. She also wanted to make sure she could somehow ensure that Burg and the rest of his new crew survived, as well.
Her heart felt heavy in her chest. Carlos tapped her shoulder, startling her and asking if she was coming to dinner. It was her favorite tonight, Chicken Paprikash! A nod to her ancient Hungarian ancestors. The ship mind 3D printed it, just for her! She forced a smile so hard that she actually slightly meant it, and said she wanted to watch the shuttle fade into the depths of the distant stars. "I'll be there soon, just save me a plate?" Carlos gave her a look of silent understanding, nodded and left her to her thoughts.
Her lips still burned with the surprise kiss he left her right before he boarded the shuttle. All those unanswered questions finally resolved, but a moment too late. They both always knew something lingered beneath the surface between them, the tension that everyone seemed to notice and smirk about, but were too kind to tease either of them for. She could map out all of the features of his face, every crinkle around his eyes as he smiled, that adorkable toothy grin he got when he was really happy, and the sounds he'd make when he was content.
How bizarre that love was more of a terrifying creature to her than exploring a brand new planet, or shooting away meteoroid showers. He whispered in her ear during their goodbye hug, asking to kiss her and saying he couldn't forgive himself if he never tried. The joy on her face told him everything. How could one feel so much happiness and yet be filled with an infinite sadness that fills ones entire being?
Her breath fogged the window as his shuttle faded away from her vision. With a deep sigh, she wiped her tears away and put on a brave face.
Tomorrow was another day, and she knew she'd never make the mistake of not taking a chance ever again. She had only hoped that she and Burg would get their shot one day, even if it took years to find each other again. Could light years come between love?
