November update / open studio in Canberra tomorrow

This is an update to last month's post about my upcoming posts about billboard advertising.

Billboards comics

In short, I am still stockpiling pages of artwork for these Twenty-Five Arguments Against Billboards. Have a look here:

You can see why I am seeking legal advice on this one, due to the heavy use of corporate logos in this comic.

I expect legal advice from Arts Law Centre of Australia in the next 10 days. (From the general advice I have received in the past, I suspect they will advise me to genericise the logos and brand names).

Having learned from the minor legal snarl I faced over Amusing Ourselves to Death, I will heed the advice of the lawyers.

Thanks for your patience during this period of not being able to read any new comics from me. They are coming!

Open studio in Canberra tomorrow (Saturday 1 December)

If you are in Canberra, come along to my open studio tomorrow as part of the Summer Revel event at Gorman Arts Centre.

You will be able to see one of my billboards comics on display (as the photos show). And talk shop about cartooning and comics.

Here is a short timelapse video of the last open studio we had at Gorman Arts Centre.

As you can see, on the right hand side I have a Billboards comic, as well as I Used to Be Racist below on the right hand side.

Blog posts: book recommendations about concentration and creativity

Last week I published two blog posts wrapping up some recent reading I've been doing.

I recommended a batch of books about time management and the web's interference with our concentration habits:

Beyond distraction: books about workflow, concentration, and productivity

http://www.stuartmcmillen.com/blog/books-productivity-distraction-workflow/

...as well as books for artists and creatives who want to refuel their inspiration:

Finding inspiration: books about the challenges of artists and freelancers

http://www.stuartmcmillen.com/blog/books-artistic-inspiration/

I wholeheartedly recommend those books. And I think the books in the Finding inspiration: books about the challenges of artists and freelancers list would make great Christmas presents for a creative relative!

That's it for now

Once again, thanks for your continued support, as I chip away at this body of work. I can't wait until I can share these comics with you, and the rest of the world.

Comments

Love the book recommendations. :)
