This month I am publishing the third comic from my Twenty-Five Arguments Against Billboards series:
Litter on a Stick
Billboards have the aesthetic of litter on a stick. It is an inherently anti-social medium, designed to attract attention away from the cityscape.

Billboards: an unreformable medium
With last month’s comic, I likened billboard advertising to corporations 'tagging' our public spaces in the style of graffiti artists.
This month, I take the argument further. I note how billboards are an unreformable medium. One that is at constant war with its surroundings.
In short, billboards will never be used with nuance or subtly, because a subtle billboard is a wasted billboard. By contrast, the sole purpose of billboards is to hijack our eyes and imprint an idea upon us.

Billboards: at constant war with their surroundings
In my comic, I compare and contrast billboard advertising with other artforms such as visual art.
Whereas visual art can be subtle or nuanced, billboards can not afford to camouflage into the background.
Billboards are a one-trick pony. One that is at constant war with our cityscapes. So why do we allow billboards into our cities?
