Life update

Hi everyone,

I'll get it out of the way: my big news is that I am now a first-time dad!

Actually, my wife and I welcomed this wonderful arrival a number of months ago, but we've been spending 2023 largely in the 'baby bubble' mode. It's definitely a big change to our lifestyle, but things are going very well! I am taking the time to appreciate this unique and special period of my life.

As you can imagine, in recent months I've had a more limited amount of time to be able to spend on my art. But I can see a pathway to build this back up moving forward. Particularly I update my home office (upgrading some slow old technology that will mean I don't have to be in my Gorman Arts Centre studio to draw), and as we add childcare into the mix (currently at 1 day per week, heading towards 3 days per week further into the future).

By popular demand, I've been working on printed versions of War on Drugs, Peak Oil, Energy Slaves, and Supernormal Stimuli. These will be printed and self-published in a similar style to the Rat Park 10th anniversary books that I published last year. I'll let you know when these are available to buy.

Beyond that, the big project in my sights is the book version of The Town Without Television that I announced in my last update. Every time I read a full-length book by another comics artist, I marvel at the hours of work that went into it. I know that I am currently waaaay in the early stages of this book project. But I'll pace myself. Page by page I'll complete the book, and then one day it will be out in the world.

Hope this update finds you well. I thought it would be nice to let you Patreon supporters know this exciting news about the new addition to my household!

Cheers,

Stuart

PS: for those of you who are in Canberra, I'll be a stallholder at the quarterly Handmade Markets this Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 4pm. Come and say hi. Full info here. If you're lucky you'll meet my baby. (Pictured below at the April markets event - looking a lot bigger than the top photo of this post!)
