I love those moments in books where like the badguys think they are being clever, or that they are ohhh soo powerful, etc etc... ~Now normally this means another long arc, or some giant buildup to a battle. But my favorite moments are the ones that are shut dOWN! Whether like in this scene where the 'super spies' were themselves spied on, or in scenes where the big bad is instantly shutdown and dunked on. There was one scene in 'He Who Fights with Monsters'... SPOILERish.... where this big bad priest lady comes out... and instead of some grueling long battle... the Heroes literally divebombed and killed her instantly. Get Dunked on. It's almost always the good guys plans that go awry. And their struggle to overcome. Or the good guys who are lacking information, left in the dark, trying to figure out some conspiracy, ... things like that. I love it when the shoes are on the other feet.
