Weekly Update - Dec 13th

Chapter 5 is more dialogue heavy than the end of chapter 4. For me it's a major chapter in the development of the two main characters, I feel they are both kind of growing up a little here, figuring some things out.

I've already started rendering out the rest of chapter 5 which I'm targeting for release at the same point in the next month, around Jan 10th. The Christmas period will either negatively or perhaps positively impact my ability to focus on development, I'm not quiet sure yet. I have a big family, 5 kids, 4 of which are young, so naturally I'll be spending some time with them however I will also be taking some time off from my day job, so that frees me up somewhat. In the end it will probably all even out.

I have decided to make a small change to my delivery schedule, I had planned to have a total of 9 chapters for Best Friends. The original idea was that chapter 5 would take the story to and include Christmas vacation, with chapter 6 starting at the commencement of semester 2. However there is simply too much story to cram into the remainder of chapter 5 to make this possible unless I cut some scenes. I don't want to do that. So I'm going to add a new chapter that will focus solely on Christmas vacation.

I've not communicated this before but here is the new plan for the remaining chapters:

Chapter 6 - Christmas Vacation

Chapter 7 - Rest of year one

Chapter 8 - Year two

Chapter 9 - Year three

Chapter 10 - Post Uni - End

When I set out to build this, it was always my intent to finish the story, I was never going to leave it open ended with no firm time frame. I know other games in this area have been going on for years, other adult comics too, never seem to end but Best Friends will. There may be possibilities that some of the characters will appear in other work I do however.

This is getting long :) But one more thing before I wrap it up. As I spoke previously, I'm going to put Chapter 4 out to Itch as a paid chapter, in the next few days. It will be priced at $5 USD, some may think this is too high but there are two reasons for that. Firstly the way Itch charges fees kind of makes putting low prices not very worthwhile, I've received less than half the gross amount for chapter 3 revenue when it was a paid chapter. Secondly, I need to be respectful of my Great Tier patreons who are currently on this same version and pay the same price. One quick note on this, unlike chapter 3, I have no plans to ever make chapter 4 a free chapter, that might change over time but as I said in the past for me chapters 1-3 were always going to be the demo.
