Thanks, Jessi. I'm glad you're thinking about this.

2019-02-03 20:53:57 +0000 UTCI work in a public library in Tennessee, and our staff did the Mental Health First Aid training, too. I’m the teen library services person, and I think I’m hearing that we’d agree that, while this training is a great first step, it’s just not enough at all. My library is in a poor county in a poor state, and so many of my teens are dealing with crushing stressors, and many of them don’t have a history of anyone modeling healthy approaches to dealing with emotions or challenges (because generational poverty doesn’t give a lot of wiggle room for people to develop that). Anyway, I am rambling, but that’s a resounding “yes” from me on the need for better availability for mental health help for people who currently can not access it.

2018-08-01 18:19:05 +0000 UTCI work for a Medicaid agency in WA and we actually took the same Mental Health First Aid training that teaches ALGEE (the people in the videos were Australian so I assume it’s the same lol) it was an 8 hour mandatory training and I loved every minute of it. I think it’s really cool to offer this training to health care companies...we interact with members every day and it’s nice to know all of our associates have the tools to properly assist anyone who is experiencing a crisis.
