Ha! I'm glad someone caught that.

Thanks, Laura. Yeah, good thoughts. We all have to do our part.

Psychology In Seattle

This topic never gets old. It brings up some of the same anger I felt skimming through a book at the library recently called “how to talk so men will listen” (can’t remember author, written in the early 2000s). It talked about how women are socialized to listen to others, engage others’ input and opinions, not interrupt, etc., often to the detriment of actually being listened to and respected themselves. It’s so interesting how that phenomenon can mix with other factors (some men’s lack of social skills, sexual frustration, etc) and lead to a man ending up thinking to himself at the end of a date “wow, she rejected me because she’s a bitch.” Instead of “hmm maybe I wasn’t paying attention to her nonverbals, maybe I was dominating the conversation, maybe making her uncomfortable,” etc etc etc. Your childhood story of drawing conclusions based on role models was so powerful....the conclusion of “well men must be the best at everything” both hurts and makes my blood boil on a deep level. I think it’s crucial that we start teaching empathy and social skills as mandatory habits for everyone, not just women...and really I have too many thoughts for one comment bc this topic brings up so many important points. Thank you for doing the hard work of addressing it!

OMG I laughed so hard at "some are attracted to otters"
