My 2018 Movie Rankings
Added 2019-01-19 17:44:59 +0000 UTCTop 5: BlacKkKlansman; Deadpool 2; Ralph Breaks the Internet; Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse; Watership Down (bad animation, but great story). So many cartoons in the top 5!
Next 5: A Quiet Place; Black Panther; Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife; Eighth Grade; Solo: A Star Wars Story (I know Solo wasn’t great, but I’m a sucker for Star Wars)
Thoroughly enjoyed it: Blockers (surprisingly funny); Bird Box (I don’t get the hate this movie gets); Adam Sandler: 100% Fresh (surprisingly touching); Avengers: Infinity War
Liked it, but I get why people might hate it: Annihilation; Bohemian Rhapsody; Sorry to Bother You (unique movie experience); Black Mirror Bandersnatch
Good use of 90 minutes: A Simple Favor (fun start, bad ending); A Star Is Born (loved the first 30 minutes); Crazy Rich Asians; Early Man; First Man; Game Night (fun, but silly ending); Incredibles 2; Isle of Dogs (love Anderson, but was sorta boring); Latin History for Morons (John Leguizamo); Like Father (hidden gem); Outlaw King; Ready Player One; Searching (John Cho!); The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (some segments were genius, others not so much); Unsane
I guess if you have nothing else to watch: Mission Impossible Fallout; Ocean's Eight; The Grinch; 12 Strong
Don’t bother: The 15:17 to Paris (boring until the end); Tag (not funny); Pacific Rim: Uprising (pale comparison to the first movie); Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (forgettable); Super Troopers 2 (pale comparison to the first movie, or I just grew up); Smallfoot (for little kids); Mowgli (unsettling and why?); Hereditary (I know it’s supposed to be a departure from horror, but it still uses all the tropes); Ant-Man and the Wasp (great cast and direction, but the script was awful)
Laughably bad: Sicario: Day of the Soldado (similar to the drop in quality between “First Blood” and its sequel); The Meg (I mean, if you wanna giggle, go ahead)
Now, let me talk about Roma. I totally get why everyone LOVES this movie, but for some reason, it didn’t click for me. I feel like a heel, but there you go. Normally, I LOVE movies like this: Boyhood, Call Me By Your Name, Y Tu Mamá También, etc. Maybe I needed to see it in a theater instead of my computer. I did like the first 20 minutes and seeing the world through her eyes. Again, I apologize.

2019-01-27 01:24:53 +0000 UTCI just came upon a serious sleeper: Leave No Trace (2018). Wow! To me, that was a GREAT movie. Moved me more than Roma,by a long shot. Damn...that was a really powerful film, and seemingly completely under the radar. I need more time to get all of my crying out after that one.
