Patreon's Colossal Blunder
Added 2023-08-03 13:45:05 +0000 UTCHey all! I've been told that in the rush to switch billing providers Patreon has screwed up this month's pledges for a lot of people and cancelled their patronage altogether.
"Patreon changed its billing from California to Dublin for this month. So a lot of banks rejected the transactions as possible fraud.
This would be recoverable ... except that Patreon’s systems seem to have automatically wiped all patronage relationships with a bounced transaction!

It also seems kind of crazy that Patreon is billing the patron for creator separately. Why can't they just batch up my subscriptions and file a single monthly bill? Surely they're wasting money on transaction processing fees this way?

2023-08-06 19:29:38 +0000 UTCI had to add a different card and re-subscribe. Very irritating. Patreon's emails said I should just be able to find the transaction and re-try it, but first it was quite difficult to actually find where to do that, and then when I did, it didn't actually work. It would just say "something went wrong". Anyways, I think I finally am re-subscribed now.

They don't seem to be retrying the billing automatically and they only gave me a response of "check with your bank about the fraud request and try again." But for many of my accounts still, it just won't let me make a purchase at all! If I find out anything actionable I'll share it

I use PayPal for Patreon payments because my credit union automatically refuses anything that comes in from outside of the US, but it will allow PayPal charges without question so I do any and all international orders/payments through PayPal.

2023-08-03 14:37:21 +0000 UTCI seem to be missing any email receipts for last month and this month, but according to my billing history I'm all paid up, and I can see deductions by Patreon from my CC over the last 2 - 3 days. Fingers crossed it all gets to you, let us know if you end up short.
