Age Gaps, Bipolar Violence, Differentiation Techniques, Feeling Feelings, Low Sex Drive, and Emotional Unavailability

I wonder if differentiated thinking could help my anxiety with confrontation? At around 24 I went to therapy for a few months and my therapist said an explanation for the way I act in certain situations (such as arguments with my parents/people who I see as above me) was probably selective mutism. Would practicing differentiated thinking be something I could do to try and help bring my anxiety down and one day be able to speak when put in these situations?

I just want to applaud you for your take on mental illness and violence. I worked at the mental hospital and almost everyone there was serving time for a crime. Almost all were homeless and off their meds when arrested. Almost all were for things like shoplifting a toothbrush and deodorant, or trespassing and squatting in an abandoned building, or having drugs on them, etc. Hardly anyone was in there for violent crime, and even then it would be something minor. It was an extremely small minority who were there for murder or really physically harming someone. I wish more people were aware. Most of the people who were locked up were just trying to survive and with the proper help would have never been in a situation that led to a crime. Thank you!
