Q&A: April 2024

Heya, folks! It's me, your buddy Eddie, back with another round of questions being answered. Sorry this one took a bit longer than I said, Austin and Heather were quite busy this week. We've successfully managed to wrangle them down long enough to get these bad boys out, however! A win for all.

As always, thanks to all the patrons who submitted a question. Let's get into it:

1) How were mutant bloods treated pre-Renaissance where we can assume it wasn’t as common to be one?

AUSTIN: Before and during The Renaissance, Repiton was more similar to Alternia in many ways, in part due to having living mother grubs and a sea dwelling hierarchy. That said, because our version of the hemospecrum is an actual spectrum, there aren't many blood colors on the planet that one could deem as a "mutant" strain, with the potential exceptions of someone like Arcjec (who is a mixed bronze-lime blood) and Sabine (who falls directly between the castes of bronze and gold, but he may have just been bragging).

"Mutants" on modern-day Repiton are a very broad category that encompasses anything that's significant enough to be noted during the reduplication process, like unexpected physical developments or additional powers that were previously not a part of that bloodline. Laivan is technically a mutant because of his lung defect, Crytum is technically a mutant because of his facial hair. Secily's "Perfect" Recall, Turnin's Hypermetabolism and yes, Sabine's Pentocular Synesthesia all apply as mutations as well. These are all well and good, their Austintine levels haven't jumped the gun. God I can't believe we decided to actually call it that.

Where it would have gotten dicey is with a bloodline like the Briati's, whose survival ability is so absurdly potent that it causes problems not just for them, but the world around them. Anything that would cause structural instability for those who ruled the world at that time would have been reasonable grounds for subjugation - or worse, erasure.

2) Where does the name “Acerigger Switchem” come from?

EDDIE: Can't answer that one yet, sorry!

3) Can Calder swim and/or does he wish he could?

AUSTIN: Whether Calder can swim or not is irrelevant, given the state of the planet's water. Honestly, the fact that nobody can REALLY swim and everyone could HYPOTHETICALLY swim are both equally true. Maybe Calder just wore floaties at the Jell-o pool because he wanted to feel secure? Maybe his gills are clogged from pollutants or are defective? Maybe he can swim just fine and yearns for the day in which he can revitalize the seas himself so he may take root and claim it under his expensive, gaudy heel?

That's a question YOU can ponder in the cold comfort of your mind. We love to give back to the fans here at the DCRC Patreon.

4) Occeus + Ellsee candle lit dinner date when?

EDDIE: Be the change you want to see in the world. You can make this date happen TODAY, with the power of TRANSFORMATIVE FANWORK!

5) Why is Sova interested in theater?

AUSTIN: She finds comfort in escapism and it's much easier to rationalize her self and her thoughts as if she were a character, rather than as a person. She learned that from a very young age.

6) Will Hamifi get her own separate playlist?

AUSTIN: That's the plan! Sestro and Hamifi will BOTH have their own playlists and a revitalized relationship playlist, at some nebulous point in the relative future.

7) What is the gay son to thot daughter spectrum the secondary cast?

AUSTIN: Not answering this one.

EDDIE: Outta my way Austin I got this.

EDDIE: The debate can finally be put to rest. Amen.

8) What is transport like between strongholds?

AUSTIN: Monorails are the leading form of transportation on Repiton! Especially so in Stronghold 21. There are almost certainly other forms of public transit, like automated buses and work-specific transports, and we know at least some trolls like to have their own wheels (Secily, Necron, Oricka, etc), but that's more of a luxury rather than a necessity. Plus, outside of the Strongholds, the roads and terrain are just god awful.

9) What are Talald and Iderra's classpects? What were they like before cult influence?

AUSTIN: No idea about their classpects! I've been going back and forth on Talald's for a long time and haven't decided on it yet. As for what their relationship used to be like...

Well, I'll just say that Talald's soul-eaten self isn't COMPLETELY different to who she was beforehand. Just greatly exacerbated. Do with that what you will.

And that's it for the moment! Next up, we've got some comic commentary to get into, so be on the lookout for that. Have a good one, folks!
