I feel like you can get the best outcome by at least sketching the character 5 different ways before settling on what pose you want for the story you're trying to tell with your image. Sometimes you can even combine the pose ideas to make an even stronger composition. For this image, I knew I wanted her to be a demon hunter. But I felt the first image was too boring and read more like "just a pin-up. " I wanted more to her story than just hot chick on top of dead demons lol.
