But the look isn't quite as nice. Even years later this is one of my favorite tape gags. The fact that it was mostly even on both sides AND stayed on very well.
And before you ask, no I don't remember the kind of tape. Probably some kind of electrical. But to be honest, that shit doesn't matter. Just find something you like and use it. The search is part of the fun!
