[PATRON REWARD] Weekly Update - July 21st, 2019
Added 2019-07-22 02:35:46 +0000 UTC
We are approaching the end of July, and Ip Man 4 has yet to be released. That is not worrying at all.
I don't think I've properly celebrated this, but a few weeks ago, our channel broke the 30K subscriber mark. We have more subscribers than some of the channels I followed for years. That is insane. Thank you for all the support! I'll be sure to continue improve the channel content.
- The Ip Man episode is surprisingly well-received and popular. It actually boosted the subscriber growth back to three digits.
- The comment section is one of the nicest, too. There are usual racist slurs, sure. But a lot of DC fans gave me their approval, which in my mind is a great validation.
- Even people who disagree gives very well constructed criticism. That was some positivity I did not expect. Thank you!
- This is especially nice because this episode is currently the most time consuming episode to date. I'm actually not a big comic book geek, so a lot of research have to be done to do it justice.
- It's also one of the most difficult episode to write for some reason. At one point, I was going to split this into a two-parter and abandon the Superman angle.
- I'm glad I hung on. Because people seem to like this unorthodox review and analysis.
- As for the next episode. I only just finished researching, and scripting will begin tomorrow.
- This time, we'll talk about a classic from a country I should've talked about a long time ago. I'm not the most familiar with the films from this specific country, as shameful as it is. So the analysis will be fairly simple. Probably won't be drawing any parallels with Batman.
- I also started the bonus video outline... Or as much as I can outline it, because the DVD isn't even out yet. It'll be out in a few days.
- Don't worry, it's not going to be another superhero movie. In fact, you can probably look through DVD release list and guess what the bonus is going to be about.
- On other channel related news: I finally started enabling community captions. Turns out, fans of the channel has been submitting subtitles in different languages. But YouTube doesn't notify the creator about it, so they only just went public a few days ago.
- The Ip Man episode now has Polish and French subtitle options. Our channel has a very diverse set of viewers from around the world. These extra language option would help our viewers immensely. Thank you all for the contribution!
- Otherwise, the channel will stick to the same plan as before for the next month: Individual films and or film series; focus on film analysis instead of cultural study; Mainstream over cult films. This will eventually change once I have more free time.
That is it. Thank you all for being here. I'l keep you all updated on the script progress soon!
