The Eye is such an underrated horror classic. Made in Hong Kong during the J-horror craze, it may share the visual style of Japanese horror films, but underneath, there is a lot of interesting Chinese concepts.

Most of the cinematic techniques are fairly universal across genres. Outside of a few excellent films that innovated (see Cinefix's analysis on It Follows), it's hard to say if horror has its own system.
