[Weekly Update] October 29th, 2019

So how do you like our last episode? Halloween is in a few days, I hope you are having a fun and spooky time.

ABOUT THE CHANNEL

• Life is still busy, and progress is a bit slow. I still aim to upload the bonus video by the 31st. Please look forward to a small retrospective on the Terminator series.
• The horror episode is fairly well received. I'm honestly surprised how many people saw the film. It's always fun to read the comments and see people sharing their memories and thoughts. I learn something new every time: Did you know there's a Bollywood remake of The Eye?
• I'll step away from Chinese cinema for the next two episodes to change up the pace. I have a few ideas, but nothing is decided yet. If you have an idea you'd like to suggest, comment below!
• My idea including Canadian Cinema, a history of Nollywood, and Anime Adaptations.

ABOUT MEDIA

• Maleficent 2. Oh boy...
• Disney has always have a problem of sanitizing their movies. Maleficent 2 is perhaps the cleanest of them all. The only tone this movie has is monotone. Telling its story in the flattest voice possible.
• A fairy tale can be whimsical. Songs, singing and dancing animals, dreams and loves and an overall pleasant tone. But no, this movie has none of those. This movie wants to be a Fantasy movie.
• A fantasy movie can be grand and epic, with massive scale world building, unique cultures depictions and deep narrative parallels to the real world. But also no, this movie wants to be a simple fairy tale movie for kids.
• So this film just ends up being a movie of no genre, and no challenge to anyway watching it. I was sitting in the theatre and being fed informations. I wasn't pulled into the film at all.
• The sad part is, this film has small moments of Maleficent engages in bits of humour, and the theatre would laugh. They are genuinely funny. Yet right now, they serve no purpose other than hinting at what this movie could've been.
• Modern Disney live action movies are like McDonalds. They are everywhere, and we like the idea of it more than the action stuff.
• Yet we keep going there. What the hell is wrong with me.

ABOUT LIFE

• Things are still busy and a bit rough, to a point where I'm starting to have sleep problems.
• That said, I've been receiving a lot of fan mails. And I have to say, they are amazing morale boosts. Thank you so much for being here.
• I know no matter what's happening, there are people out there who eagerly waits for a new episode from this channel. That's something that I can only dreamed of a few years back.
• So, schedule may still be a bit shaky for a while, but I'll do my best. Thank you all for the support!
