Hope you all enjoy the last episode on Parasite. Evidently people really like to talk about this film, as discussions of it continues in the comment sections and in discord.

So, that's my week. Outside of the usual sleep problem and cold Canadian winter, things are nice and schedules are back to normal.

To me, Dark Fate definitely seems to have everything going against it. And if it doesn't exceed people's expectation by a mile, it's not going to make its money back. Shame, really, from the trailer, I was partly hoping it goes back to the original film's formula and being a horror chase film.

You nailed the problem with both Reacher films perfectly: being bored by the action and waiting for the plot to get moving again. As for Dark Fate it's...interesting. I can't really recommend it, but it definitely deserves better than this level of failure. Ultimately it feels a lot like Dark Phoenix: it never mattered how well it did because audience buy-in just wasn't there, so the discussions about it tend to be less about real merits and flaws of the film and more about the system failing by releasing it in this form at all. Personally I feel like Dark Fate was always going to be a hard sell. Arnold shows up literally half way in, and he and Linda Hamilton steal the entire film. The two new female leads are given little to work with, and have some cringe worthy 'woke' moments. The film isn't ever boring and the action is frequently quite inventive, but no force on earth could make me care about Natalia Reyes's character. Which is really sad because the end of the second act and beginning of the third act are essentially a prolonged chase with a segment that's easily as tense as scenes like the trailer-over-the-cliff scene in The Lost World - the kind of thing that makes seeing a movie in a theater an "experience".
