The channel is gaining tractions on Twitter for some reasons. Or maybe the channel is bigger than I thought... Jesus, one dude retweeted my content and he has 8000 followers.
I don't know why I'm intimidated.
ABOUT THE CHANNEL:
- Hope you enjoy our last episode. It's gonna be the furthest away we'll be from our usual Asian and world cinema roots.
- However, younger me had face the exact same question of wether or not to go to film school. I know there are a lot of you out there that needs the advice. While there are videos on YouTube talking about the pros and cons, none of the goes in-depth on the subject. Hopefully, this video is helpful for people out there.
- Next project is this month's monthly bonus video. Thinking of doing a video on the new Lion King. What do you want me to talk about?
- The next episode will be a pretty big piece, going back to talking about themes across multiple movies, instead of talking about a single one. It has been a while since I do one of those. I'm excited.
ABOUT MEDIA:
- So I finally watched Ad Astra.
- I'm going to spoil the film, but really, there isn't much of a plot to begin with. I find the film too preoccupied with its metaphor and message.
- In short, it's a metaphor of a man suffering under our current societal expectation of manhood, and must travel to the deepest, darkest place to confront his trauma.
- Throughout the film, Brad Pitt's character exhibits no emotion, and are always reluctant to find help. He is confronted by various states of emotion, from the captain that is overtaken by fear, to a baboon that is unreasonably angry.
- Society, represented by the space agency, expects him to suppress his own emotion. But the only way for protagonist to truly move on, is to accept it, and come to term with his trauma.
- I have always been fascinated and usually impressed by movies that are a metaphor. I find the idea from Autopsy of Jane Doe equally clever. Yet with both films, I don't find myself interested in sitting through it again. In fact, I might just call them boring.
- After some introspection, I guess it's just that, I'm not good at writing metaphor films, and that's what I'm chasing after. Yet, of all the film I like from the past decade, none of them are metaphor films.
- I guess this sort of "clever art house" approach to film making is, ultimately, overrated.
ABOUT LIFE:
- I'll be taking the next few days off to adjust myself a bit. It's the beginning of the bitter Montreal winter, everybody needs some rest and re-adjustments.
- I'll be watching more movies, and hopefully have a chance to see "A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood", which looks like the most wholesome movie ever made. God bless you, Tom Hanks.
- I'll also be playing some video games again. Even though I have no new games to play. Maybe we should start a gaming discord.
So, what's your plan for winter?
