Christmas is in a few days, are you excited?
ABOUT THE CHANNEL:
- Sorry about the lack of update and video this week. Because of some sponsorship shenanigans, everything on the original schedule went out the window.
- The new episode is almost done and will be uploaded within the next day or two, just in time for Christmas.
- Originally I wanted to take January off. But with a new sponsorship approaching, My month-long break is delayed to February.
- So there will still be two episodes for January. No bonus and episodes for February, and everything will be back to bi-weekly schedule in March.
- As such, I will halt Patreon for February instead.
ABOUT MEDIA:
- So, Episode 9, no spoilers.
- J.J. has now become one of my least liked director, which is quite a fall. I liked his earlier work, all the way up to the Star Trek Reboots.
- There are a lot of people blaming going on in the fandom right now. But the reason the series ended without much satisfaction and even fanfare is not due to one single source of problem.
- With Marvel, modern blockbusters became glorified big budget TVs, with one episode every few years. As TV needs a show runner, Marvel also had a continuous singular vision through the entire franchise.
- This is not the case with the Star Wars Sequels. It's fairly clear that, they are making things up as they go.
- That's a real problem, when J.J. is famous for his mystery box, story thread that builds up to a greater mystery. Both Cloverfield and Lost show that his mystery boxes are all empty inside. There is no answer to his mystery.
- Rian Johnson is similar in this aspect. Looper is a stylistic film with a good premise, where the final answer to the mystery makes less sense the more you think about it. (It's a time loop that has no origin but requires it)
- Is Episode 9 a bad movie? Not really, but it feels very messy in trying to tie up all the loose ends that weren't planned. The sequels is all build up, no pay offs. Just like many other live action TV shows, it fizzles out.
- God, Breaking Bad is such a miracle.
ABOUT LIFE
- My trip is now set and I'll be away at the end of January and be back by the end of February.
- I'll be spending some time in China, as well. I do have a VPN, but I probably won't be able to answer questions on YouTube, Patreon or Twitter. I'll try my best to stay in touch!
It has been a great year for the channel. I hope you had a great 2019, and I'll see you in a few days for the final episode of the year.
