Happy New Year!
Just when we hit 2020, our channel reached 70k subscribers. I can't believe how quick the channel is growing. To think I've been doing this just a bit over a year, I'm blessed by all of you.
ABOUT THE CHANNEL:
- Some of you may know, there will be two more episodes for January. There won't be a concrete release schedule for them. I want to take this month and do something slightly larger in scale than our usual analysis. The quality should be worth it.
- Next episode is being written as we speak. Expecting to be release by next Monday or so. This month, we are returning to Chinese cinema, but also stepping outside of my comfort zone.
- There also likely won't be a bonus video this month. I'll make it up to you in February.
ABOUT MEDIA:
- I have a million things I can say about CATS. But I want to discuss on the general state of film a bit.
- Oscar season just ended with New Years Eve, and it didn't really feel like it existed. For one, it's deeply uncomfortably to realizes that Cats was probably meant to be an Oscar bait movie, with the expensive tech and set, the Oscar musical director, and the star studded cast.
- The other contenders, Ford v Ferrari, Judy, and A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood leaves little impression outside of their actings.
- The Irishman is about as safe as you can get with Scorsese.
- While it's most likely just a very bad year for traditional cinema, part of me fear that this is going to be the norm for the future, with Disney's continuing expansion.
- In recent years, media discussion has slowly but surely shifting towards TV shows. Going into theatres to see a non-blockbuster movie is going the way of arcades and stage plays. Maybe people simply prefer to consume their medias at home.
- Or maybe I'm just an angry old man yelling at the sky.
Well, time to get back to writing our next episode. It's a highly requested topic, and for a long time, I don't feel qualify to talk about it. Hell, I still don't feel qualified. But I will do my best.
Happy new year, and Hope you all have a great 2020!
