[Weekly Update] January 20th, 2020
Added 2020-01-21 01:03:43 +0000 UTC
Alright, this is the last update for this "season", some house keeping to do.
But before we start, I'd like to do a credit name check: If you'd prefer a different name in the video credits, please comment below, or direct message me!
Alright, let's get to it.
ABOUT THE CHANNEL
- Sorry for not being very active for the past two weeks. I have been busy working on the final video of this month, which should be up in a couple of days.
- It'll be an episode on "the worst Chinese movie ever made". There are some jokes, and some swearing. I hope you enjoy the comedy. Take a guess as to which film it is. It's not "Switch" or "Shanghai Fortress".
- This will be the last video of this "season". I'll be taking February off, and will return in March. However, there is still one Bonus video for February.
- There won't be weekly updates, either.
- You won't be charged in February, don't worry ;)
- I'll be leaving the office tomorrow. I'll still check my social media on occasion, so feel free to contact me there, or on Discord, but replies to fan mail may be slower than usual.
ABOUT MEDIA
- Any Ari Aster fan here?
- I'm asking, because I'm not one. His work has consistently surprised me. Well, I should say that I'm surprised his works have major fandom to them. They are designed to be cult movies with the skin of a big production.
- I would not have expected there are this big of a cult film community out there, enough to make his work not only profitable, but pretty much mainstream.
- I never find his work all that compelling, but that may be because I'm just an up tight film school nerd.
- His work, in some way, is very close to early J.J. Abram films, in the sense that the film itself is very open ended. The story only truly begins to make sense if you watch it like a puzzle box, finding all the clues, doing research outside the film, and dissect it after watching.
- It's a process I don't expect many people to be willing to go through. But... evidently people like that. It's a very different, almost interactive way of making films. I wonder if this is the future of horror movies?
ABOUT LIFE
- So, once again, I'll be around the Bay Area for the next two weeks, before travelling back to Asia. No, still not planning on doing meet ups, sorry :p
- The channel has grew massively for the past month, the attention is way more than I ever expected, and it is somewhat overwhelming. Thank you for all the support. I do love talking to you guys about movies, and anime!
- So, what do you want to see as episode topics starting March? Leave a comment, and let's talk about it!
Alright, so I'm off to do some last minute packing! Thank you all for being here, I'll be around on Twitter and Facebook!
