Hope you all enjoyed the latest episode on Who Killed Captain Alex. As expected, it's not the most popular video on the channel, But I think we all need a bit of a rest from the usual heavy subjects. It's easy and fun for me to write and edit, and I hope the video and the film is enjoyable for you as well.
ABOUT THE CHANNEL
- The next few episodes will continue to aim for a calm and fun vibe. I have a few interesting film highlights planned, hopefully they'll hope brighten your mood in this quarantine, even if it's just a little. Next episode is going to be a highly requested one!
- Between the next episode and the episode after, there may be a Q&A video for 100k subs. You guys have submitted a lot of fun questions! It's now up to my schedule. I have a few other jobs going on at the same time. Hopefully things don't get too hectic.
- A counter notification for our Ip Man 4 video has been sent. According to YouTube, the video should be back online within 10 days of submission, unless the claimant pursues legal action, which I highly doubt.
- As a reminder, our Patreon bonus video for April is also out. You can check it out down below. This time, it's about Cats.
- I'm also planning to change up the bonus video format in the near future. I'll set up a poll in the next few days, to see what types of video you'd prefer.
ABOUT MEDIA
- So back during the writing of our IP vs. Superman episode, there was a planned extra video that never got finished. In it, I was going to set up my personal definition of Superman. With so many incarnation of the Man of Steel, I think it's important to narrow it down for everyone, first.
- After all, the Superman in Lois & Clark is different from the Richard Donner Superman in a variety of ways, which is different from my own preferred version.
- At the end, I found the extra video to be too ambitious and way to big, so it didn't even past the scripting stage. But in case you are interesting, here's the important part I wanted to talk about.
- You know how in Kill Bill Vol. 2, Bill says Batman is Bruce Wayne with a mask, but Superman is born Superman? I don't know if it's intentional (it's Tarantino, it's hard to tell), but I find that notion to be completely backwards.
- For me, Batman's identity is fairly consistent: Batman's true identity is Batman. Bruce Wayne, metaphorically speaking, was dead the moment his parents were killed.
- Batman don't have a personal life. All of his personal life are dedicated for crime fighting. His alter ego, Bruce Wayne, is not his true personality. Bruce Wayne is a Batman in disguise.
- Superman, however, isn't always so clear cut.
- Superman has 3 identities: Karl-El, Clark Kent, and Superman. In the Richard Donner universe, he started off mostly as Clark, and his Karl-El side comes in later as he discovers his power.
- After some time spent in the Fortress of Solitude, Clark combined the two identity as Superman. And from that point on, Superman is closer to his true personality, while Clark becomes more of a disguise for him. Yet still, unlike Bruce Wayne, Superman still enjoys his personal life as Clark.
- I personally also prefers the Lois & Clark version, where Superman is the alter ego, and Clark is how Clark truly is.
- Either way, Superman is almost never born Superman. His power came from the sun. He was raised as Clark Kent. The name Superman only comes much later in his life.
- The take away is, there is always a human side of Superman, with a human struggle. He has a private life, a personal, down to earth life. And with that, he really isn't that much different from the movie version of Ip Man.
And that'll be the update for the week! I'll be slightly busy for the next few days, so if you have any messages for me, expect a bit of delay before reply. I usually tried my best to reply everyone. But if I leave you in read, please don't be mad, I can't even remember what I ate this morning.
