Hope you all are doing well and staying safe. A lot of things are going on around the world at the moment. But don't lose hope and hang in there. Great unrest leads to great changes.
ABOUT THE CHANNEL
- Due to recent event, I decided to postpone the episode I originally planned, and make way for a more... topical video.
- This means I have about 12 additional movies I need to watch for me to get a feel for this unfamiliar genre. Added to all the research and reading, this basically means I have no way of making the deadline this Thursday.
- Still, I feel this is something we need to do, a message that we need say. I think the delay is worth it, and I ask, politely, for your understanding.
- In any case, since the original episode is already already scripted, I should be able to catch up to the original 2 videos per month schedule by the end of June. Your support for this month will not go to waste.
ABOUT MEDIA
- At the risk of over saturating this page with superhero talks... Let's talk about Batman. Specifically, his cape.
- The first time I saw the Zack Snyder DCEU Batman design, I immediately dislike it for one reason: The cape.
- If you look up the cover art of Detective Comic #1000, you'll see 10 different versions of Batman on the cover, and 7 of them have a very specific similarity.
- They all have over-the-shoulder cape. (Also the 3 that doesn't have over the shoulder cape have a smile on their faces)
- Batman was inspired by the gothic horror of the 20s and 30s. Much of its iconography were actually taken from a 1926 silent movie called "The Bat", including the bat signal and, of course, the cape.
- Unlike Superman's cape which goes behind the back, Batman's cape acts more like that of a vampire cape, the Dracula cape. It goes over the body. And if stands straight, I'll cover up his entire body. It invokes fear and terror of the night.
- While most of the comic batman design takes this to heart, so far, only the Keaton Batman truly embraced this look.
- It's almost comical how accurate you can judge the Batman fiction by how much it covers the shoulder. With Kilmer and Clooney Batman being the worse of the bunch, dripping completely behind the back, no different than that of Superman. Nolan's Baleman has some covering, and Affleck stands somewhere in between.
- This even works with the Arkham games, with Arkham Asylum doing full covers, City doing half covers, and Knight having him drive a mother effing tank. And then Arkham Origin is like: Let's give him an armour shoulder pad instead.
- Yes I did say Asylum is better than City. Bite me.
- If this detail continues to show the quality of Batman media, than the upcoming Battison Batman is going to be as Batman-esque as... Arkham Origin.
- Oh man, I hope I'm wrong about this.
Well, so that's the first half of 2020. Time passes slowly and quickly at the same time these days. I hope the rest of the year can be kinder to us. Hope you all have a good week.
