LIGHT GROUPS - Unleashed on Blender 3.2 alpha!
Added 2022-04-02 14:36:29 +0000 UTCHello, awesome Patreon! Great news all around! After 5 long years of development, patches and waiting, "Light groups" are officially going to be released on the upcoming Blender 3.2 version.
Right now you can check out the above link to know more about the Blender 3.2 alpha implementation and the awesome news is that light groups will ALSO BE AVAILABLE FOR EEVEE!
(Quoting Tobey McGuire in No Way Home): That's fantastic! What are light groups?
Light groups will allow you to define which elements in your scene are lit and which aren't.
This basically mean you can now use 1 bright light in front of the eyes of your character's retinas and they will shine with correct specularity, but it will not affect your face.
You can have one direction for sun light illuminating the face, but not the body, thus finally we will be able to control light direction natively without doing extra drivers, offsets, or shader tricks. This is huge for NPR.
"Light groups" have been in other packages (like Softimage) since the dawn of time, and it's fantastic that we will finally have them on Blender in 2022, officially.
Cheers!
-Pierre.

2022-04-04 15:57:25 +0000 UTCIt seems you add the view layer, you assign the light with a collection and it seems you get a pass render on Cycles. What I am hoping for, its the eevee workflow.
