I've said before, I rarely draw it, but I love horror art, especially when it's sort of beautiful also. At the risk of sounding like a serial killer, I think there's an intimacy about cross-sections. I was fortunate enough to visit the Bodies exhibit when it toured Hawaii, and I was so moved, and felt honored to be able to view these people in that way. But of course that's not for everyone.
There's a music video I rewatch a few times a year -- Baths' "Lovely Bloodflow" -- and it follows an injured samurai through a deep green forest. He collapses, and plumes of white "smoke" drift from his mouth, his eyes, his wounds. It's an amazing video and I think about it all the time. Was it his soul escaping?
