Hope you all enjoy our last video. It was a trip down memory lane for me. As I'm writing this, I'm still tired and exhausted.
ABOUT CHANNEL
- Sorry for delaying our last video. The totally unnecessary intro animation is the main reason why the video took longer than usual. Thanks to my close friend and long time collaborator Naomi for the illustrations.
- The illustration itself took a day to finish, and doing the animation took another day. So instead of coming out on Thursday, it ended up on Saturday.
- Still, I hope you enjoy the video. It's not a popular film, so I'm mostly doing it for myself, to sort out my own emotions. Reading the comments, I realize a lot of people are currently in the same mood as I am.
- Hopefully my cathartic journey is also helpful for you.
- --------------------------------
- Our next video, as voted by you, will be about Shin-Godzilla. I'll be delaying it, most likely to the 27th, so its release to be closer to Halloween. And I think I'll need a few day to recharge, too. This year is really exhausting, isn't it?
- For November, I have one more Japanese film planned: Rurouni Kenshin. I brought up this film so much, I might as well get it all out.
- I'm not sure what else to do for the second half of November, however. Any suggestions?
ABOUT MEDIA
- Since we are talking about childhood shows, let's talk about that!So I did grew up with a few shows that are popular in the west. Pokemon and Digimon were global phenomenon, obviously. But I also grew up with Magic School Bus and Captain Planet.
- Now Defunct Hong Kong TV station ATV used to import and dub American shows, which is why I grew up with them. Other shows includes the Real Ghostbusters, the Godzilla Cartoon.
- Not the same network (I think), but I also watched the 90s Spider-man Animated series. It was one of my first exposure to Superheroes, and it just so happened to be the excellent Venom saga.
- Of course, there's Doraemon, a popular show in Asia, but never made it in the US. It's pretty wild that Doraemon is aimed at a young audience, but somehow has a lot more uncomfortable lewd content than Shin-chan, a show that technically aims at adults. Seriously, Nobita is a perv.
- Another show that was popular was Nintama Rantaro. This one I never got into. But it did taught me about how Ninja carries their swords: around their waist, like everyone else. (Having them on their back makes it impossible to put the sword back, and make crawling under the floor difficult).
- On a lesser known side, there's this anime called Chuka Ichiban. It's about... Chinese food? But it's like the Japanese interpretation of Chinese food. Regardless of accuracy, the show did make the food look incredible. Not by drawing them well, though, they did. But the anime has some masterful writing, building up to the reveal of each dish. (The remake sucks, though)
- Even less well known, there's Super Yo-yo. Yep, an anime about Yoyo. The anime is... okay. But I was into it so much, I actually learnt how to play yoyo. I don't play it well, but the basic is there. Finally, let's talk about two anime that, I doubt any of you heard of.
- First one, The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. It's an anime adaptation to an, I believe, American book? I don't really remember much, other than it's fantastic arts, and that Santa's costume is elven, and gives him immortality. It was fun.

- Lastly, there's Yume no Crayon Oukoku. It's... cute. But don't let it's children aesthetic fool you. Produced by Toei Animation, there is a lot of depth to this seemingly childish anime. Although the main thing I remember, is its fantastic end credit song.
- Seriously, search "Yume no Crayon Oukoku ED" on YouTube, and let it wash away your stress.
Well, that was a productive week! Again, hope you enjoy our last video. In any case, I'll see you next week, with some Godzilla news.
