Uneventful week for the channel, so, let's get right into it.
ABOUT THE CHANNEL
- Our next video is being edited right now, a video focused on the writings of the Rurouni Kenshin live action film series. If you would like to follow the video closely, this is a good time to binge to 3 films! Trust me, it's an absolute joyride!
- Video is scheduled for the coming Thursday. Afterward, we'll have a video scheduled for December 1st, a collaboration of sort!
- The month of December will be anime focus. I have something ridiculous to show you this Christmas. And I can't wait to share it with you.
- Finally, we have something big planned for January. Another video focused on the filmography of a single artist. Take a guess!
ABOUT MEDIA
- Just when you thought video game based movies are taking off, with Sonic and Detective Pikachu, here comes Paul W.S. Anderson with his Monster Hunter movie to set it all back down to ground level.
- Dude, what the heck, you made Mortal Kombat, one of the best video game movie ever made!
- And then 2 years later you made Event Horizon, that was good!
- I guess the idea is that he can direct other people's stuff, but don't even let him produce and direct at the same time.
- Anyway, video game based movies. I briefly talked about it in our bonus video about Detective Pikachu. But that was mainly a retrospective look at the sub-genre. Today, let's look into the future instead. What's on the docket?
- We have Tomb Raider 2. Judging by the disappointment of the first one, I can't even understand why they made a second one. Alicia Vlkander is a great actress, most famously known for Ava in Ex Machina. While she's quite prolific, she does need a breakout roles. Sadly, the role of Lara Croft did not do for her what it did for Angelina Jolie. The game and the character are no longer as iconic as it used to be, and the film with its simple plot and bone dry humour, it fails to satisfy fans or entertain the general audience. I doubt this movie will be good.
- Sonic Sequel is planned for 2022. I saw it in theatres with my friends and was entertained by unimpressed. Sonic's design and Jim Carrey are the two things that saved the film. If either one is missing, the film would be a generic kids movie. Expectation is that the sequel will be more exotic and grander in scale, closer to its video game source. Hopefully they are bolder in this one.
- Uncharted, starring Tom Holland as young Nathan Drake. This movie has been in dev hell for a couple of years. I was interested back when Mark Wahlberg was signed on to be Drake. But after the constant director change... Yeah this movie is going to have some seriously inconsistent and confusing plot lines, plastered with unfunny one-liners, and completely missing the point of that it's supposed to be a throwback style adventure movie. Let's be honest, this and The Last of Us feels more like TV material than movie anyway.
- Monster Hunter, starring a minigun on a humvee. This movie is gonna blow! Although the CGI doesn't look half bad. Best I can hope is guilty pleasure, but Paul Anderson's style has been outdated for at least a decade and a half, I doubt I can get much excitement from it.
Whatever happened to the Tetris movie anyway? Was that just a weird tax thing? Oh well, anyway, hope you all have a good week ahead of you. I'll see you all in a few days with a new video!
