[Polls] Which Film To Kick off 2021?
Added 2020-12-10 00:22:49 +0000 UTCFor our first video of 2021, we'll return to Chinese cinema. Initially, I wanted to cover the undisputed worst Chinese animation ever made, The Autobots, and talk about its fascinating behind the scene stories.
But there are also a few Chinese films that came out in late 2020 that felt like I should talk about when it is still mostly fresh in people's memory.
The contenders are:
- The Autobots (Plagiarism in China: The lack of regulation enforcement produces shameless director, while the general public felt angry and ashamed. Also I'll be swearing)
- Jiang Ziya (Sequel to the highest-grossing Chinese animated film, with a mixed reception. We can learn from the good and the bad)
- The Eight Hundred (A war film that impressed both Mainland and Taiwanese audience. How finding common grounds can unite people)
- Leap (A biographical film about China's volleyball team, and a masterclass showcase of acting: Gong Li's transformation is impressive. But equally impressive are all the athletes who play as themselves)
So, which one would you prefer to hear? Cast your vote!

I voted for Leap b/c ... I love me a good sport flick with all the trappings of a sport shounen. ^^;; but an idea for an essay if you've seen it already - Queen's Gambit is pretty much a sport anime with Beth Harmon as a classic tsundere xD
