Reading erotica tends to be different from watching porn in that you want/expect more of a ramp-up and you need to have some kind of conception of characters and context. That means if it's a wholly original work (as opposed to fanfiction, which would feature characters and a world the reader is already familiar with) you need to put some effort into making the reader give a shit before you start bumping uglies. As a side note, being dudes you may not be aware, but Clan of the Cave Bear and its sequels were in fact a huge part of the sexual awakening of an entire generation of girls (maybe they still are, but idk, I don't hang out with many women in their 20s). It wasn't written as erotica, but Clan of the Cave Bear had a very frank portrayal of sex (and an eroticized rape scene) and the sequels had a lot of enthusiastic (and poorly written, there's a lot of silly euphemisms for dicks) consensual sex. Most people who read the books as kids remember the sex, but not necessarily the fact that like 90% of the books were about flint-knapping and stuff.

Also, as an avid consumer/occasional writer of smut (though admittedly not of the dinosaur variety), the leadup to the fucking is about on par with what I'd expect. I think Taken by the TRex was self-published, but I know a lot of publications pay by the word, so... yeah. The one story I ever got published spent two paragraphs on the mechanics of a bicycle ERG trainer before getting into using nipple clamps and a riding crop as training implements for high intensity intervals.
