Mick Foley is a bit of a local legend in northern New Hampshire. There is a small amusement park in Jefferson NH called Santa’s Village. They have some rides, a few reindeer and of course, Santa. A young Mick Foley vacationed there as a child and it made such an impact on him that he still goes back to play Santa. Local public radio did a feature a few years back on him and he mentions it in one of his books. https://www.nhpr.org/word-of-mouth/2014-12-10/from-mankind-to-saint-mick-mick-foleys-journey-from-wrestling-cage-to-santas-village

2023-07-17 23:14:06 +0000 UTCOne of my favorite Mick Foley stories, which he tells on WTF I think, is when he promised to mow the lawns of people who donated to RAINN. He wasn't ready for the amount of people who donated and copped to maybe not doing the best job.

2023-07-14 02:20:51 +0000 UTCHow many patrons would we have to hit to get Joe to recreate the Flying X-Armbar on a cohost? Since we're talking gimmick combat sports. Let me tell you some of the funny and dumb ones I've seen pop up. Car Jujitsu which is just no-gi BJJ in various cars. Someone will try to use the seatbelt to strangle their opponent. It rules. Thermoplae. It's a Russian kickboxing org. that's ring isn't really a ring more a long ass line where you can't move around you opponent. Just linear movement. Also it's an elimination team sport. So you lose, then your buddy jumps in and they reset in the middle. It's dumb as hell. Top Dog or as I call it Hay Bale FC. It's a bareknuckle boxing org that is just basically Russian weirdos in jeans or track pants punching each other in a circular ring made of hay bales. Also super stupid.

2023-07-11 03:32:48 +0000 UTCWhat a strange war from an ethno-graphic perspective. Have to wonder what the mindset is of your average Germanic soldier in the legions at that time. It's easy to overlook the slower cultural shifts that took place during Rome's history, west and east both, with the (more peaceful) cultural transformation from Latin to Greek - I say "more peaceful" relatively speaking, considering the whole "4th Crusade" thing.

2023-07-10 05:50:22 +0000 UTCThe Chinese have a phrase called "yi zi er shi" which means "trading children for food." This does not refer to the practice of selling one's kids for food but rather starving families trading each other's children to be cannibalized. I had to learn this and now so do you.
