Happy Lunar New Year!

I want to cover something light and heartfelt for new year, and I suppose there is no better choice than last year's new year hit, and one of my favourite films from 2021: Hi, Mom.

To put it simply, Hi, Mom is a movie about a time-traveling daughter befriending her mom in 1981. It's a fun little movie that feels deeply personal to the writer-director, as well as to the rest of China. For this reason, Hi, Mom became a huge hit. It overtook highly anticipated sequels like Detective Chinatown 3 in the box office. It also overtook Wonder Woman as the highest grossing movie directed by a solo female director.

It's an important movie that went mostly unnoticed outside of China, and I think it's deserving of everyone's attention.
