New MonsterVerse movie is reportedly in production. Looks like we'll have an encore!
CHANNEL UPDATE
- Sorry for the lack of update for last week. We are working on a big project, and you'll get to see it soon! It want to keep everything a surprise, so I won't go into detail now. For that reason, we'll put the script previews on halt for now.
- This month's Patreon bonus video is also in the work. We'll be talking about Spider-Man No Way Home. You know, it's the third Spider-Man video in our bonus video catalogue. Maybe I like Spider-Man just a tad too much.
- Come back this Wednesday for a poll. Yes, finally we are voting for something, again. It's about time we talk about monster movies again. This time, we'll be voting between three topics:
The Mothra remake trilogy
The Obscure Toho Kaiju (Such as Varan or The Mysterious);
The Toho Frankenstein series
- And as per tradition, I'll also throw in the 98 Godzilla as a potential choice if you want to hear me swear.
MEDIA TALK
- In case you can't tell, yes I'm excited to see Kaiju movies again. The MonsterVerse version of Mothra is arguably the best looking version of the monster. I think I'm not alone in saying that a Mothra film would be super cool.
- This brings us to today's topic: What's your movie wishlist? What are some of the movies you wish someone would make?
- At the risk of demanding more sequel from an industry that's already flooded with it, on the top of my list would be a sequel for "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.". While maybe not the most flashy of spy films, it does have one thing: Henry Cavill in suits.
- Actually Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer have great chemistry, and their frienemy dynamic would make a very fun buddy cop movie, but in the spy genre instead. The first film spend way to long time setting up everything, and the actually interesting bit of two spies from hostile countries working together is barely explored. A sequel would remedy that. Although, with current events, it's highly unlikely this will happen.
- For a long time, fans have been wanting to see a Ghostbusters 3. Now that Ghostbusters Afterlife came out and loved by fans, the itched has been scratched. Pretty sure a sequel is inevitable. I'm cautiously optimistic about it.
- Dredd. Such a great movie, such bad timing. I remember seeing the poster plastered all over downtown Montreal when it was new, and all I can think of is "God this looks like a crap movie with a 3D gimmick slap on top".
- Turns out, it is a thrilling action movie featuring the always underrated Karl Urban and Lena Headey. It's brutal, it's violent, it's beautiful, and it's basically Die Hard but for the 2010s. The first film feels like such a successful proof of concept. Too bad no one saw it, and a sequel is never made.
- Now, onto remakes. Not sure if I'm the only one here, but I'm a big fan of the classic Universal horror movies. Too bad Dark Universe is such a corporate bomb from the start. The Invisible Man proved to us that there's so much potential for these classic concepts to be updated. And the one I want the most is Frankenstein.
- Make him a robot, make him an AI, make him a clone, the story of Frankenstein's monster is always a classic. We live in a time where creating an artificial monster is barely sci-fi anymore. This cautionary tale of humanity defying nature is more relevant than ever.
- And finally, this is a big one and probably an impossible one: Game of Death. With deep fake and other CG methods, we finally have the technology to complete Bruce Lee's Game of Death faithfully. Of course, we don't really know what Bruce intended the story to be, and the Lee estate is probably not very likely to approve this project. But a nerd can dream.
And that is the update for this week! Let's throw in one type of movies I don't want to see in here: I don't want to see anymore movies attempt to adapt story based video games.
Video games are long form entertainments. Games like the Last of Us, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy are all episodic. If someone wants to make an adaptation, make it a TV series. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
Anyway, new video will be coming in two weeks. In the mean time, if you missed it, I hope you enjoy our videos on Leslie Cheung and Turning Red!
