August is coming to an end. School is starting. Autumn is almost here. But the heatwave decides to have an after party.
Stay hydrated, everyone!
Hope you enjoyed our video on the Mothra Trilogy. Kaiju related content don't usually do well on our channel (or most channels, or in the box office tbh). This video is only possible with direct support from you. Thank you!
With one voted video down, I think it's time for another one. I'm thinking of voting which actor to cover next: Jet Li, Cynthia Rothrock, or Donnie Yen.
Next up, we have a video about RRR. I'll be explaining why the film is such a big deal in India, why it and many other Indian movies are so over the top, as well as giving my thoughts on the film. It's gonna take a few more days because that's how long the movie is. But stay tuned!
Afterward, we'll talk about Jackie's recent movies. You know, the bad ones. Have you seen any of them? What would be some that you recommend, be it underrated or surprisingly awful?
Have you heard of this sentiment: Hollywood should remake bad movies instead of good ones.
It's an interesting thought, and something I personally support. Of course, it doesn't make much financial sense most of the time. But There may be some exceptions. Mainly, there are bad movies that are financially successful. So let's see if you can think of a few.
Oh and before we begin, we won't be counting large franchise movies like Transformers. Because in these situations, it won't be a remake, it'll just be a reboot of a popular franchise.
The first one I think deserves a chance: Twilight.
Wait, no, don't go!
I really, and I do mean REALLY dislike the first film (Which is also the only Twilight film I've seen). I doubt director Catherine Hardwicke has much say in the matter since she was still an emerging director, but the film just reeks of laziness. From the wash of colo rgrade to the exposition dump at every corner, the movie is so bad.
But the book, at least the first one, is surprisingly not that bad. It's not good by any mean. It's a bit cliche, with romantic cliches of dubious consent and such. But Bella in the book is a truck driving tomboy who doesn't take no for an answer. The simple different gives her character so much more agency in the story. With a few clean up here and there, Twilight could've been an amazing supernatural romance film with good amount of mystery and thrill to it.
I can imagine people getting curious to see it, if the remake is actually good. It's a bold business decision, but it could work.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is slowly gaining a bit of a following in recent years. It's definitely a fun movie concept that feel like a bit of a waste of potential. I feel like the movie wants to play into the intrigue and prestige of the characters, when it should've been just a mindless action adventure flick, featuring fun and quippy dialogues. Its greatest strength, the amazing cast of actors, also became its biggest weakness.
In the same vein, The A-Team leans hard into character prestige and nostalgia, when it should've been like 21 Jump Street and just be its own thing. Heck, the original TV series is all sort of adventurous fun, with a little update, this film could've been like Jumanji.
Alright, one more, and this one may be controversial. I kinda want to see Waterworld being remade. The original Waterworld is... okay? It's and over budget thrill ride with little to no substance. And I think everyone would agree that it can be so much more. With a new direction and the aide of modern technology, Waterworld can get a remake in a similar style to Mad Max Fury Road. I don't know about you, but I think that's a pretty exciting idea.
Anyway, that'll be my rambling for now. What bad movie you'd like to see a remake of? Part of me also want to see a remake of Spider-Man 3 with Venom removed. But the actors are too old to play their roles now, and I don't like the idea of recasting for that movie.
Hope you are all having a good week. I'll see you soon with a new video!
