Tony Jaa was a sensation back in the 2000s. I distinctly remember an interview with Donnie Yen, who was either promoting SPL or Flash Point on a TVB variety show. In it, Yen directly says he was motivated upon seeing Jaa's popularity. He said: "Why can't we do that? It's not like we can't fight!"
Evidently, the rest of the world also thought the same, because after Tony Jaa's rise to fame, everyone begins copying his style.
