The References in Kung Fu Panda
We are continuing our "references" series with the Kung Fu Panda trilogy. Specifically, we'll be talking about the cinematic inspirations behind the trilogy, such as why the furious five are the types of animals they are. With Kung Fu Panda 4 coming soon, this may be a good time to take a look at the films again.
Comparing Mulan to the Original Poem
In this video, we'll go through all 27 lines from the Ballad of Mulan, explaining the details, and compare it to the 1998 Disney animation. While the animated film takes a lot of liberty, it stays much closer to the poem than one would expect. Just as an example: Mulan actually has a little brother. In the film, Mulan has a pet dog called "Didi", which is Chinese for little brother.
Memes from Chinese Movies
From classic culture to Internet culture, I'll be sharing some memes that originated from Mainland, Hong Kong, And Taiwanese movies, and explains their context and impact. These memes include clips that have gone viral outside of China, such as the Stephen Chow Knife throwing scene (not that one, the other one), as well as memes that are popular in China, such as "I mean all of you are rubbish"
