Early November Progress Update

Over the past two weeks, I split my time in three ways:

1. Working with volunteers to get the assets I need to add Osana to the game

2. Investigating the issues that are harming the game's framerate, researching ways to fix the problems, and experimenting with possible solutions

3. Working on the Halloween minigame.

Because all of my time was spent on those three things, I don't have an awesome new feature to show off this week. On the bright side, Osana is coming along really smoothly, and I learned a lot regarding how to fix the framerate issues, and I even made some good headway towards improving the framerate. I feel confident that I should be able to show off cool new stuff by November 15th.

Thanks again for your support!

I think that an "Under Suspicion" state is actually a really interesting gameplay concept! It could mean harsher reputation penalties, and could also mean that the police will keep a close eye on Yandere-chan and consider her a suspect in future crimes, leading them to scrutinize her future actions very carefully. The only downside I see is that Yandere Sim is already meant to have three distinct reputation states - Bad Rep, Neutral Rep, and Good Rep. "Bad Rep" means you're regarded as a delinquent, Neutral Rep means that you're a wallflower that nobody pays attention to, and Good Rep means you're one of the "Popular Kids". I think that adding on another "layer" - whether you're under suspicion or not, have a trusted alibi or not - makes things too complicated. Also, the police have a device that tells them whose DNA is *most recent* on an object. That's the primary reason why they know that Yandere-chan's DNA in a mask used in a murder is a "smoking gun".

Hey YandereDev, this isn't a topic related to your last video but I was messing around in the build and one gameplay question occurred to me while playing. At the moment, you can be arrested for not destroying a mask you've used in a murder because of DNA evidence. However, it occurs to me that the mask alone shouldn't single you out as the killer - at the very least all of the Drama Club members would have their DNA on the mask as they would be using it during club meetings as well. Perhaps if you fail to destroy the mask you don't get a Game Over but instead are temporarily 'Under Suspicion' - you take a Reputation penalty as rumours and gossip about a killer in the club you belong to fly around, plus if it's not too complicated one of the Photography Club members shadows you for a few days to see if anything is borne out, forcing you to find some way to shake him off to get anything done.

Fun, $5000 a month he can fix frame rate. MAFIA III's a multi-million project that cant go past 30 fps on release.

Yes, this occurred to me, too. I've observed this happening in other video games. I don't know if there's an official term for it, but I've heard the phrase "frame skipping" used before. (It refers to the idea that the game will skip some frames of an animation.) However, the game engine that is being used to develop Yandere Simulator does not have built-in support for such a feature.

When I hear about turning off far away animations are causing a lot of performance impact, I wonder if you have tried to reduce the FPS the animations are rendered. If you render in example only 1/5 of the animations per frame of distance characters this should already greatly reduce the impact and looks less strange than in the video. Similarly you might not have to render all AI and pathing stuff in realtime, especially when they are not in "interaction range" (AI) or "line of sight" (pathing). Just my 2cents on that topic. :)

This frame rate issue peaked my interest, I might actually do research about it later.

Whoops! Man, it's embarrassing how often I make that mistake. Thanks for telling me about that!

Um...You mean November or December 15th? It says Sept 15th in the post.
