RPPR Illustrated: Cointract Island - The Maw and Necrobiotic Goblins

The Maw 

A one of a kind Cointracter prototype, the Maw is a massive predatory organism. It resembles a giant snake, much larger than any living species. Around its jaws are octopus tentacles, which it uses to grab and drag prey into its maw. It can easily swallow an adult human in a matter of seconds. It can move at great speeds in short bursts in silence. It cannot cling to ceilings but can climb most surfaces. This creature has numerous cybernetic implants, both to control it and enhance its combat performance. Some implants are visible, some are not. 

The Maw’s most dangerous ability is its camouflage. Like an octopus, it can quickly disguise its entire body to match the local environment. It can even change different parts of its body to different patterns to hide in complex backdrops. 

The Maw was designed as a multi-purpose combat chimera. It could be set in territorial mode, where it guards a specific area, except for people designated as ‘safe’ by its cybernetic-control implants. It can also be sent in hunter mode, where it simply hides and murders as many armed humans as it can find without being detected. Its designers envisioned dropping the Maw behind enemy lines, where it could serve as a terror weapon. 

The Necrobiotic Goblins

Cointract developed a species of giant spider specifically to harness their legs as necrobiotic limbs. Each leg, when properly harnessed, could become a versatile tool in the right hands. Different tools could be attached. A complementary cybernetic implant system allows humans to attach and remove limbs at will, with different implants for the torso, back, and limbs. The test program showed initial promise as human users were easily able to adapt to using dead giant spider legs as additional limbs, effortlessly swapping out limbs for different tasks. Unfortunately, the chemicals used to treat the legs and residual toxic elements from the limbs destabilized the minds of the test users. Nicknamed ‘goblins’, they wander the island, causing mayhem wherever they go.

A typical goblin is an emaciated human with multiple cybernetic implants to allow them to plug giant spider legs to use as prosthetic limbs. They have a large bag (kind of like a golf or hockey stick bag) to carry different spider limbs. Spider legs can have tools or weapons attached. A goblin can use multiple limbs attached to their back to carry them or assist them in climbing. They are erratic and unstable, driven to violent outbursts, paranoid delusions, and manic episodes. Many of them ‘farm’ giant spiders so they have an endless supply of limbs. Untreated limbs can be used, but they break after a few weeks of light usage or days of heavy usage.
