RPPR Illustrated: Labyrinth of Lost Futures - The Order of the Invisible Road

EXCERPT FROM A BOOK FOUND ON A CORPSE AT [REDACTED]

Be nice to the Order of the Invisible Road. They're the people in hi-vis outfits fixing the place up. They live down there, beneath the subway, in their own city, called The Crossroads. They grow their own food, make their own tools, everything they need. Totally self sustaining. And what do they do? They built the tunnels of the bunker level. They repair the subway so it doesn't fall on their heads. But why? Why would anyone want to live down there, surrounded by monsters and god knows what else? They seem themselves as free from all other obligations. They have a mission but don't explain it to outsiders. Only the faithful gets the full story. They do recruit explorers, so the truly curious can try to find out.

Anyone who messes with them is going to have a bad time down there. They keep track of explorers. Pick a fight with one Order member means picking a fight with all of them. On the other hand, rumors abound that the Order has their own internal problems. Schisms and infighting. Who knows what happens down there?

EXCERPT FROM DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE INTEL BRIEFING

The Order of the Invisible Road began as an occult fraternal organization in the early 20th century, exact year unknown. Modeled after similar groups, such as the Freemasons, the Order only operated in the United States for a few years before it officially disbanded. It has continued to operate in the pocket universe known as [REDACTED] to the present day. Members of the organization have been spotted in the US.

We have intercepted communications between members indicating some of their internal beliefs and policies. They state that the Order was founded by [REDACTED] after the Subway Bleak massacre. The founders offered a simple deal: dig down and expand the structure and we'll protect you and give you magical knowledge. Since then, the Order has become a self-sufficient society that lives entirely in [REDACTED]. It is unclear if they are still in contact with the founders.

They practice a unique form of magic, based on three principles:

Incantation: Vocalized chants that affect creatures (human and unnatural) and the air. Can't affect stone and minerals.

Inscription: Chiseled inscriptions in stone and materials native to [REDACTED] can manipulate these materials. A single Order member can safely excavate thousands of tons of rock and build a proper tunnel with the right inscriptions.

Illumination: Meditation on light sources, often aided with prisms and mirrors, can gain information or communicate with others at great distances. They can manipulate light as well for a variety of purposes.
