March Movie ✨ 5 Centimeters per Second

This was a BEAUTIFUL movie with such a relatable and heartbreaking story...thank you for voting for this one! I had a lot of fun watching this on stream and getting to chat about it with everyone 💛

Gosh this one made me feel so sad afterwards. I love movies like this that get you thinking and looking more critically at what's being said and done. This movie FLEW BY for me, but my god you could really feel the aging parallels between our main characters and the different paths each took. The ending was bittersweet...and i'm happy with how it ended 🥺

Thank you for sharing this with us :) I didn't anticipate this movie being THAT relatable...it was such a pleasant surprise! I can feel a lingering sadness looking back at the movie overall THOUGH what I do really like is how it ended and how shows hope, growth and change and as cliche as it is, things get easier in time. It's actually a really emotionally complex movie but also very simple in its meaning - but I like how it can be interpreted differently based on the viewer. The direction of the movie was actually so well done... I've been thinking about this movie all morning as I reflect back on it. I'm thankful I had a friend in chat who's watched this before and was able to point out some details to me that I didn't first notice which made SO much sense in hindsight. Even today looking back at my reaction I noticed so many subtle signs that I didn't catch in the moment and I'm like WOOWWW (now that I know what it all means).

The first time I watched this film was in the middle of the night. I was still hung up on a relationship that had ended years before. While I had thrown myself into my career and had several other fairly meaningless relationships, I was still unable to move on. This film really resonates with me for that reason. I listen to the sound track often, and re-watch the film every year or so. It remains my favorite Shinkai film. I know most people prefer Your Name, and I understand why. But 5 Centimeters Per Second, along with his short black and white film She and Her Cat, and by far my favorite Shinkai films. (Heck, I might even put Voices of a Distant Star ahead of Your Name, but that's probably the nostalgia talking.) Thank you for your reaction.
