Friday Rambles 7/29/2022
Added 2022-07-30 05:26:22 +0000 UTCWow I'm on time! Another week, another rambles.
July and Travel
July is almost over! First couple weeks I was out of town, so I couldn't draw, and when I could draw, I only drew Tiger-chan. Also I spent forever packing orders, so I have that excuse too. At least I was able to eke out something with some other characters before the month ended.
I'll be traveling next week so I won't have a lot of time to draw. Again!
Pixelartist
Random thought I had this week. I think I'm happier being "an artist who sometimes does pixelart" than "a pixelartist who sometimes does other art". Mostly for the fact that no one comments about how "omg there are too many pixels" when I post something that isn't pixelart anymore lol. Then again, I don't think the "pixelly" stuff I do lately even counts as pixelart, considering they're basically just high res at that point.
Style Evolution
While I was writing up the Team Dinner Commentary post, I went through my old artwork to find the ones set in the diner/bar/restaurant my characters always eating food in. This one in particular stood out to me, and due to the similar premise I think it highlights well how much my work has changed/evolved over time.

(Feb 2020)

(today, July 2022)
They probably both took roughly the same amount of time to draw too. Anyway I thought it was interesting to see, and serves as a personal reminder to me that little incremental changes adds up. I'm excited to see where my art is in another 2 years.
Stuff I've Consumed this week
- Nope: I've never seen a Jordan Peele movie til this one, so I didn't really know what to expect. But it was interesting and I enjoyed it.
- Phoenix Wright Trilogy: Still playing through this on My Steamdeck. I haven't played the games since they were out on DS, so the story has been fun to play through again. I do miss the pixelart sprites though (natch). I wish there was an option to use those, just for old time's sake.
- Fall Guys: It's stupid and it's fun and you can play for like 10 minutes and get your fill for the day. Shrug emoji
- Espresso Tonics: One of the local coffee shops has espresso tonics on their seasonal menu, so I've been enjoying that lately. Just once a week as a treat, though. Something about the bitter and bubbly taste is refreshing and addictive.
Misc
While writing this rambles I realized this rambles column is generally terribly underutilized as an interesting newsletter that people will actually want to read. I think I need to read other newsletters to figure out what the heck other people talk about that makes them so interesting that thousands of people subscribe and pay for their newsletters (I'm talking like in the tech world and in general, not just art patreons).
Maybe I'll add like an art appreciation thing with links to art I like too, to add some kind of curation aspect to it. Well whatever, I know this column isn't the primary purpose of this Patreon, anyway. But something I'll think about for the future.
Thanks for your support, as always!!
