Friday Rambles 2023-01-27

It's your regularly scheduled Friday Rambles.

Hope you had a good week. What? There's only 4 more days left in the month? Well, 3 now, I guess...

I was supposed to be done with this game a month ago!!! Oh, are we talking about the game again already?

I finished up Lumber Lass with one last powerup and an Easter egg, and then moved on to writing dialogue (the one thing in this whole darn game that actually matters, which I still haven't finished). I tore apart and reconstructed the narrative structure of the story to flow better and updated and moved all existing dialogue around to fit the remade outline, and I'm pretty pleased with the result. Then I started making something completely different for a story sequence that I'd been wondering how I should implement for a while. It's actually looking pretty good and I'd share it here but I want to keep it a surprise, because otherwise, what surprises would be left for you all to enjoy when you actually play the game?

Also, this week I felt like drawing something for once so I drew this. And yeah, it's game related, just like everything else in my life nowadays.

For old times' sake, here's the sketch version too.

I also wasted some time on another minigame for Penny's phone that I'm not actually going to finish because the gameplay isn't fun and I have higher priority things to work on. Here are some sprites I made for it that you may or may not see in the game in a different capacity.

Also, again (wow I was pretty busy I guess), this past weekend I went to a big social gathering thing of friends and probably got sick from that. Anyway I spent a couple days this week in bed with chills and aches, which are mostly gone now. Still have a sore throat, though.

And with the end of January, I'm now approaching the beginning of the 8th month of my sabbatical. Still have some savings left and I'm not in danger of going broke or anything, but I'm wondering if I haven't put too much pressure on myself to be profitable and successful with this particular game, considering it was made in at most 4 months with 0 previous game dev experience. Even if it doesn't make a lot of money, I guess I just want the hope that making games can be a sustainable career for me. The past 7 months of my sabbatical have been so incredibly meaningful personally as far as the stuff I've spent my time making, exploring, experimenting with goes, and the past 2 months after I started gamedev have been so fun and rewarding, I would love to do it full time and never step foot in another office ever again. Unless it's for making my own games, of course.

Tiger-chan, no! I will finish this game! I'm so close I can taste it! This last 10% is not taking 90% of the time at all!

Okay, time's up it's 11:58 PM and I have 2 minutes left before I'm late. My streak will continue for another week!

Anyway, that's it for now, thanks for your support, as always!
